I got to chase the police car pace car down the main road on South Bass Island, and the driver kept waving at me as if he was saying "Come on, let's Go!" On the first lap, I was going slightly over the speed limit (40 or so) to get a feel for the course, but on the second lap I put the foot down as far as I felt I could and keep the car on the road. I think everyone on the island must've been out to watch 50 or so classic race cars go down their road, but the people controlling the spectators and traffic did a really good job, and even the drunken misfits were kept away safely. I have the in-car video on my tablet, but somehow the GPS data got lost. I averaged about 55-60 on the second lap, but I peaked it once or twice at just over 70. That's the fastest I've ever been while chasing a police car? It's amazing, considering most cars were much older than mine.
The other days were filled with an island rally (which I won, btw) and some dedications of engraved granite markers along the course, a rocker cover race ( I didn't win, because I was delayed getting there) and a car show. I drove about 85 miles and used 1/2 tank of gas (5 or 6 gallons) on the island, which is only 1 1/2 miles long. Gas was $5 on the island. The trip was about 300 miles total.
